Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
Under the immediate supervision of the sterilization and dispensing manager, perform duties related to the dispensary area including dispensing of dental instruments and materials, and collection of contaminated items.

Essential Functions
  • Open and prepare dispensary for clinical sessions.
  • Dispense dental instruments, materials, and supplies; prepare pre-packaged dental materials and solutions according to established procedures; follow appropriate protocols for materials and equipment handling.
  • Control distribution of clinical equipment and scan barcode of equipment for tracking purposes; notify appropriate students and/or faculty regarding items that have not been returned.
  • Order supplies and unpack/stock containers to appropriate levels.
  • Communicate with central sterilization and central supply for instrument and dental material deliveries and or other clinical departments.
  • Receive and process contaminated instruments; disinfect/sanitize equipment.
  • Adhere to all infection control policies and procedures.
  • Comply with state and federal OSHA laws, infection control protocols, and safety standards while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) barriers such as gloves, gowns, and eyewear.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Sterilization and Dispensing Manager or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Dental terminology
  • Dental instruments/materials and their use.
  • Entry-level computer skills.

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Working Conditions:
  • Position is full-time, seven and one half (7.5) hours per day, five (5) days per week with occasional overtime.
  • Incumbents must be available to work varying shifts to include evenings.
  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to:
  • Provide high level and professional customer service.
  • Understand and follow protocols for dispensing, collection and restocking materials from the dispensary.
  • Learn and apply proper techniques for handling contaminated instruments, disposable materials, chemicals, and dental materials.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Follow oral and written instructions
  • Communicates clearly and appropriately.
  • Lift & move heavy items.
  • Organizational skills, problem-solving skills, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Project a professional image, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and appropriately with colleagues, students, residents, and faculty.
Experience:
  • One year of experience in a hospital or health care delivery system is highly desirable.

Other:
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative but not definitive of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Requires standing during majority of working hours.
  • Requires lifting of boxes, dental instruments, trays & cassettes.
  • Requires moving large mobile carts through clinic areas and into/out of elevators.
Hiring Range 29.68 per hour
