Database Specialist V

As a Database Specialist V at Cherokee Nation Systems Solutions (CNSS) in Charleston, SC, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining relational databases to support data storage and processing needs. You will play a critical role in developing database strategies and ensuring data integrity and reliability.

  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Database Specialist V: Pay commensurate with experience.

Database Specialist V Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and build relational databases for data storage or processing, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Develop strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition, and archive recovery, aligning database solutions with organizational objectives.
  • Clean and maintain databases by removing and deleting old data, optimizing performance and resource utilization.
  • Evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization's quality standards and ease of integration, recommending solutions to enhance data quality and availability.
  • Provide consultation on complex projects, serving as the top-level contributor and specialist in database management and architecture.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and develop database solutions to meet business needs.
  • Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and performance bottlenecks, implementing solutions to optimize database performance and reliability.
  • Lead and direct the work of other database professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
  • Work under general supervision, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, while demonstrating a wide degree of creativity and latitude in problem-solving.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Database Specialist V Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in computer science, information technology, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in database management and administration, preferably in a federal agency setting.
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts, principles, and technologies, with expertise in database design, implementation, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in database management systems such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with data warehousing, ETL (extract, transform, load) processes, and data archival techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data requirements and develop effective database solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others, providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff members.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Previous experience leading or directing the work of others is highly desirable.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
